While oil spills are uncommon, being prepared is essential, especially with our on-site fuel dock at Orakei Marina. To further strengthen our environmental safety measures, the Trust has invested in a new 84m oil curtain boom, which has now been deployed.
This boom has been custom-designed specifically for our marina and is stored in its own container at the end of the fuel dock. Its length allows our trained staff to completely seal off the marina from the outer harbour in the unlikely event of a major spill. It can also be deployed in targeted areas to contain an individual vessel or berth if needed.
Alongside this new equipment, we continue to maintain our shorter 15m Rapid Boom, which has already proven useful on several occasions. Together, these resources ensure that Orakei Marina remains proactive, equipped with the latest technology, and committed to safeguarding the environment.
