As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility, Orakei Marina has partnered with Auckland Council’s Biosecurity team through the Pest Free Partner Programme that supports businesses supplying goods or services to the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana in adopting effective biosecurity practices. It is specifically designed for businesses that transport materials, plants, or equipment to the islands, ensuring that invasive species are not accidentally introduced.
This initiative strengthens our existing biosecurity efforts by providing extra support and education for boat owners, helping to prevent the spread of invasive species from the mainland to the Hauraki Gulf islands. Through careful vessel checks, clean boating practices, and increased awareness, we aim to safeguard these ecologically significant islands so they remain safe havens for native species and fragile ecosystems.
