Orakei Marina opened in Dec 2006 and is Auckland's newest and premier marina catering for predominantly larger vessels.
The Orakei Marina is owned by the Orakei Marina Management Trust, a charitable Trust with a board of nine Trustees. The nine trustees include five elected berth owners, one member of Auckland City Council, one member of Ngati Whatua o Orakei corporate Trust Board, the Commodore of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, and a member of the Tamaki Drive protection society.
The Management of the Marina has been awarded to Orakei Management Limited, an independent company with a contract to manage the Marina on behalf of the Trust.
Orakei Marina Development Limited in conjunction with Orakei Marina Limited are the companies responsible for the planning, construction, and sale of berths at the Orakei Marina.
Project Director Mr Tony Mair headed a team of highly qualified maritime developers with marina development experience spanning 30 years with a direct involvement in over 6000 marina berths worldwide.
The Developer selected a team of highly respected national companies involved in an enviable track record of other successful marina developments for the construction of the Orakei Marina.
The construction of the Marina commenced in March 2005 with Heron Construction involved in the hard rock excavation, Smith & Davies for the construction of the rock breakwaters and on shore civil works, Smithbridge for the cantilevered car park structure, and Bellingham Marine (NZ) Ltd for the floating attenuators, (Unifloat) berthage.
